This week's acquisitions (and two loans!)

Two acquisitions arrived in the post this week - Enid Bagnold's The happy foreigner and EH Young's The Curate's Wife. I've already read and enjoyed the former (review in due course), and the latter is something I've wanted to read for a while.

Two books also arrived as a test-drive/loan; Hayley from Desperate Reader kindly offered to lend me books from her Virago collection. She sent me a long list and I picked out a couple of titles which I hadn't heard of and which sounded intriguing. I ended up with Pirates at play and A fine of two hundred francs. Hayley hasn't read either of these, so I'm giving them a test drive and will be writing about them in due course. Thank you very much Hayley!

  1. I was trying to remember why Enid Bagnold sounded familiar, and then I spotted my mother's old copy of National Velvet on the bookshelf opposite me. I'm looking forward to hearing all about these.

  2. Yes - I mentioned that when I read The sqire by Bagnold. her two VMCs that I've read are very different from National Velvet.

  3. I loved 'The Curate's Wife' - it's one I bought purely because it's a Virago and I collect them as well (just stumbled on your blog today) I also have the first one in that pair 'Jenny Wren' but it's been on my reading pile for months now! Hope you enjoy 'The Curate's Wife' - I'm looking forward to your review!

  5. I did try and read Pirates at Play, just didn't much like it. Will try again when your done and see if I get on any better after I enjoyed Broderie Anglaise so much.
