This week's acquisitions
Am determined to keep my VMC buying on a short lead this term, so there may be less weekly acquisition posts this side of Christmas - I need to make some more space on the VMC shelf really before I can buy more, but I've already been tempted by some books that I have read about this week...

Lovely! MUST purchase Excellent Women when I am purchasing books again... Such a bargain with Echoing Grove! I really like the cover for Taking Chances.
ReplyDeleteI know, I think that's the second or third VMC I've got for 20p! Put Excellent Women on your Christmas list :)
ReplyDeleteI'm envious of your Virago acquisitions. I think they are far easier to come by in the UK. There was a time they were published here, but lately I never see used titles at my library sales or rarely at my favorite used bookstore (though I've not been in a while). I get some through ABE Books or Alibris, but they seem to have lots of the newer ones and not so many of the older ones. I may have to start trawling used UK stores online. I've heard that often there are lots of used ones to choose from in bookstores over there (wouldn't that be nice to actually choose!:) ). It may be where I am in the US, which is not on either coast--they may have more selection, too! Enjoy your new books--I'd like to read all Rosamond Lehmann's books at some point!
ReplyDeleteDanielle - yes, I think we are lucky in the UK, and especially in Oxford. I do get quite a lot online, from greenmetropolis.com and from Amazon. But I need to cut down on that this Autumn... Rosamund lehmann is amazing - I read all of her books in the space of 6 weeks earlier this year.
ReplyDeleteRosamund Lehmann is an author I have yet to read. Digging around second-hand bookshops hasn't yielded any of her books either. There may have to be an order placed...but I have been very bad lately. R has been working quite a bit so he's been assuaging his guilt by telling me to order books to keep me busy.
ReplyDeleteDarlene - I really hope that you manage to find her... I am so envious. Ken is working a ridiculous amount at the moment, but I don't seem him passing me the go-ahead to buy more books (or rather giving me some cash for books!)
