I remember Cath's review of it and wanted to read it then, too. So many books--how to squeeze them all in??Daniellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06415242678720695754noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4942500966976732451.post-14892911324276721382010-01-23T15:27:43.669+00:002010-01-23T15:27:43.669+00:00I don't think I've read anything from the ...I don't think I've read anything from the first world war other than nurse or orderly accounts. I see my university library has this, so I'm definitely adding this to my list.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4942500966976732451.post-75184589873583689452010-01-22T14:39:22.007+00:002010-01-22T14:39:22.007+00:00Hayley - that book sounds fascinating. Zenna!

Cath - thank you so much again for recommending it to me. I was shocked by her parent's attitude but suspect that that may not have been that uncommon.verityhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16825551404394913715noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4942500966976732451.post-92078961305405637552010-01-22T14:20:28.041+00:002010-01-22T14:20:28.041+00:00I think this is possibly the best book I've re...I think this is possibly the best book I've read about WW1 and I'm so glad you liked it as much as me. So much of it just beggars belief and for me one of the worst aspects was the attitude of her parents at home who just had no understanding and didn't strive to get any. Awful. I don't understand why this book is not more widely known; it should be required reading for students of history.Cathhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06371069000185280668noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4942500966976732451.post-35940154383530097192010-01-21T22:06:39.955+00:002010-01-21T22:06:39.955+00:00I've heard great things about this one too, an...I've heard great things about this one too, and I'm saving it for the right moment. Years ago I read 'The Roses of No Mans Land' which was letters and diary's from vad nurses and similer in france, good but harrowing. Until then I hadn't realised how close to the front line women got, or how hard it was made for them.Desperate Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15708411387912078122noreply@blogger.com
